Preview: Wigan put Blades to the Sword?

Paul Jewell has a job on his hands to get his team mentally ready for another game so soon after Wednesday's dis-heartening result. Despite matching Arsenal and at times out-playing the Londoners, Wigan AGAIN came up short and are still waiting for their first point against one of the big four.

That chance comes in a weeks time when Champions Chelsea arrive to town, but before then, Wigan take on Premiership newcomers Sheffield United, who have pulled themselves away from the relegation zones after a good run of results.
Paul Scharner: Returns after Suspension

Two wins and a draw from their past three games have seen United open up a three point gap between themselves and 1th placed West Ham, but despite their good run of results, Wigan should still be favourites to take the points on the weekend.

Neil Warnock's sides away form has been overall poor, but for a newly promoted side, above average. From their eight games, the Blades have won two and drawn one. Their side don't have any world beaters, but typically for a Neil Warnock side they fight to the death which means Saturday's game will be a tough, physical encounter.

Team wise, Jewell may be tempted to bring in some width and speed in the shape of David Cotterill, but also must decide whether to bring back Paul Scharner who has served his one game suspension.

In his absence, Josip Skoko and Denny Landzaat linked up well and Landzaat had his best game for Wigan (not hard though considering how poor he has been) as the attacking midfielder, so Jewell may stick to those two in the centre.

There is also a slight doubt over Heskey, who went straight down the tunnel after being substituted midway through the second half against Arsenal.

Ones To Watch

There isn't really anyone in particular Wigan need to look out for, it's the team spirit and fighting nature that must be watched.

My Prediction

This might be harsh on Sheffield United, but after the way we lost to Arsenal, i am hoping our lads come out fighting and put someone to the sword.
