least one of them.

If the game ends at stalemate, the Latics can push both London clubs closer to the trap door, and move eight clear with victory on Sunday. But if one lose, and Wigan win, the losers on Saturday will be nine points off safety.

And with Wigan's superior goal difference making it mor like ten, Saturday could be doomsday for the clubs who swapped managers near the end of 2006.

And although Paul Jewell won't admit it, himself and his Wigan players will be watching this game with keen interest. Along with all Latics fans.

Come Sunday, Wigan will be without defender Fitz Hall who lost his appeal to overturn his midweek dismissal at Watford.

His absence will see Ryan Taylor drop back into defence at right-back, and although the former Tranmere ace has played most games at right midfield, he doesn't care where he plays after proving an inspiration since returning from a year of injures.

"The gaffer has been telling me to slow things down, but that's because I'm just keen. That's the way I am at the moment.

Valencia: Opportunity in Hall's absence
"Right now I'm on a big high now I am playing again, and all I want to do is keep this club in the Premiership."

Taylor's absence at right midfield opens the door for Valencia to return to the starting line up, although Jewell may be tempted to play Kilbane there, as the Irish international came off the bench to play on the right for the second half in midweek.

Another, more attacking option would be to start Henri Camara on the wing, although he, along with Julius Agahowa (who had a virus, so missed the Watford clash) are expected to be on the bench, with Heskey and Folan expected to start.

Newcastle have too many injured to list, but to put it into perspective, the geordies could make a first team eleven with the players currently out injured.

Newcastle away are a different prospect than Newcastle at home. In thirteen away trips, the Toon have lost eight, winning just three. And with Wigan returning to winning ways at home two weeks ago, don't bet against the Latics taking home advantage once more.

Ones to watch

Former Internazionale striker Martins is a real live wire, and a player who can produce a piece of magic. Winger James Milner is also a danger, especially at set pieces and with dangerous crosses.

Pundits Prediction

a 2-0 victory for the Latics, according to Mark Lawrenson.

My Prediction

Hope for a sympathetic referee for once, a fair one would be enough after Dowd and Styles! Despite newcastle's poor away form....
