Defeat to Middlesbrough, a team who have a reputation for beating the top clubs and losing to struggling clubs, and victory for West Ham and Charlton could drop Wigan to 19th in the league.
However, victory for the Latics, and defeat for both the Hammers and Addicks would relegate Charlton, and almost guarantee Wigan's Premiership status.
And with Fulham faultering weekly, it could be Fulham who are dragged into the bottom three.
With our destiny amazingly still in our hands, Paul Jewell has rallied his troops for Saturdays massive match: "If our results are the same as West Ham and Charlton in the next two games, we will be okay.
"We have a massive game tomorrow with Middlesbrough and it's important
|
"If we win tomorrow, it stays in our hands going into the final day and that has to be the aim."
Paul Jewell is expected to make changes after last weeks humiliation. John Filan (in his final home game before retirement this summer) could be dropped after a horror April saw him make countless mistakes. Mike Pollitt could come in for his second league appearance, ironically his first being in the return fixture at the Riverside.
further changes are expected to be made. David Cotterill, Julius Agohawa and the returning Antonio Valencia are pushing for starts, whilst Emmerson Boyce, David Unsworth, Matt Jackson or Paul Scharner will make up the back two.
Ones to Watch
Viduka and Yakubu are great strikers, whilst Stewart Downing on the wing is also dangerous.
Pundits Prediction
Mark Lawrenson has predicted another Wigan win, 2-1. He will be the death of us.
My Prediction
It all depends on Jewell's squad selection. If he is sentimental and continues with the likes of Filan and Jacko, another defeat could be on the cards.
