The Teams

Hull City

Despite being a Third Division side, Hull City will not be a push over. They have assembled quite a squad to match their New Kingston Communications Stadium and will no doubt be looking to leave the Third division behind this season.

Roberts: Played for both sides
Their squad includes players like Jason Price, Danny Allsopp, Ian Ashbee, Ben Burgess, Jamie Forrester, Andy Holt, Dean Keates, Alton Thelwell and Ryan Williams. Many of these have already proved that they can hold their own in the second division.

Hull started the season very well at home to Darlington, winning 4-1. Burgess, Price, Thelwell and Allsopp got the goals.

The true quality of Hull's side is the fact that they can afford to leave Jamie Forrester on the substitutes bench for their season opener.

Likely Line-Up: Fettis, Thelwell, Joseph, Hinds, Price, Ashbee, Delaney, Green, Burgess, Elliott, Allsopp.

Key Opponent: Danny Allsopp

Wigan Athletic

de Vos: Missing
A disappointing opening day defeat away at Millwall perhaps brought Latics fans to earth on how this season in division one may go, however they will no doubt be striving to achieve in the Carling Cup this season, to mirror last years success.

First Division Wigan may well be without Jason de Vos after he went off injured during the defeat at Millwall and he will be sorely missed. Details of his injury are yet to be released by the club.

Fire-Power will be short up front again without Nathan 'Duke' Ellington and no significant signing. However Roberts and Liddell should be enough to overcome hull.

Roberts spent a few weeks on loan at Hull City not so long ago, when his Latics career seemed to be coming to an end. However he has forced himself into the team with some excellent performances.

Former Wigan goalkeeper Roy Carroll also played for Hull before his £350,000 move to Latics.

Likely Line-Up: Filan, Eaden, McMillan, Breckin, Jackson, Teale, McCulloch, Dinning, Bullard, Liddell, Roberts.

Our Chances?

Althought Hull have a strong side for a Third Division outfit you would have to agree that even without Jason de Vos and Nathan Ellington, the Latics have a far stronger starting eleven.

Prediction: Wigan Athletic 2 - 0 Hull City
