David Moyes left it very late to begin spending in the summer with fans complaining about the lack of ambition shown by the club.

There was uncertainty among supporters with no new signings to parade, Moyes was stalling over a new contract and the clubs poor start to the season.

Eventually the signings arrived with Lars Christian Jacobsen, Segundo Castillo, Carlo Nash and Louis Saha all arriving to ease the fans nerves.

The club was still on an inconsistent run and it was only when Moyes signed his new contract that Everton started performing.

The club is now on a 5 game unbeaten run and are full of confidence.

The result away at West Ham showed that they will run and run for the full 90 minutes. Being one nil down with ten minutes to go and winning 3-1 showed true team spirit and determination.

They now face a Wigan side unbeaten in 3 and wanting to move out of the relegation zone.

Wigan Team News

The result at Newcastle last week was certainly one where Wigan could have bagged all three points if it was not for a decision which was covered in controversy.

Steve Bruce has called for TV technology after the Emmerson Boyce 'red card'. With the club not able to appeal, Boyce will be absent for the game with doubts hanging over Emile Heskey (Hamstring), Amr Zaki (Rib and Calf), Captain Mario Melchiot (Knee) and Jason Koumas (Groin).

If all fail in fitness tests, Bruce could name Ryan Taylor, Paul Scharner, Olivier Kapo and Henri Camara in the starting XI.

Key Players for Everton

Tim Howard - Signed from Manchester United on loan in 2006 which led to a permanent deal a year later. Considered one of the best Premier League goalkeepers and is a consistent performer in most matches.

Joleon Lescott - Known for being deadly inside the 6 yard box from set pieces, Lescott has shown that he has the qualities to play at the highest level after being picked in the England squad on a number of occasions. Has formed a solid at the back with Joseph Yobo.

Mikel Arteta - The Spaniard who was once on F.C. Barcelona's books is a key member of the Everton Squad. Pulls the strings from midfield and is a naturally gifted player. Key opponent.

Louis Saha - The striker seems to be reborn at Goodison Park playing alongside Nigerian strike partner Yakubu. Has struggled with injuries in the past but on his day is a top quality striker. His move from Fulham to Old Trafford for a fee of £12.8m shows Sir Alex Ferguson thought there is something special about Saha.
