Opinion: Time to accept our fate?

But, a week in football is a long time. A week in football whilst supporting Wigan Athletic is even longer. Just over seven days after a huge victory, we’re back to square one and running out of time.

After the victory at Reading, we had to pick up at least one win for the Charlton and Cardiff home games. Three points from those two games would have given us a chance going to Blackpool this Saturday.

However, we failed to capitalise on a rare win once again, just like we did with the away victories at Derby and Leeds. Instead, Latics rolled over and were hammered 3-0 by Charlton and beaten by Malky Mackay’s former club Cardiff.

Now, we travel to Bloomfield Road for the Blackpool match. In my opinion, it’s time for us as Wigan fans to accept our fate and take relegation to League One on the chin.

I am forever an optimist, but even I’m struggling to be positive about this up and coming Lancashire derby. In fact, I can see us losing, being beaten would sum up our season altogether.

We’ll only be second bottom on goal difference if we lose, above a team who had eight registered players a week before the season started. Nothing less than we deserve really.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be there in Blackpool supporting the lads as ever. But we’ve got too big of a mountain to climb and swiftly running out of games to save ourselves. I think League One beckons and, for a long time, we’ve been preparing to expect the worst.
