Ten Reasons: Baines for England

Last updated : 16 November 2006 By Paul Farrington
1) Attitude. The attitude displayed by Baines since emerging through the youth ranks at the club has been top notch. Aided by mentor Paul Jewell, Baines has developed a desirable work-ethic.

2) U21 Performances. It is clear from the past few under 21 performances that Baines is ready to step up a level. His screamer in Germany should have been enough.

3) Shooting. The Ipswich screamer, the Germany screamer and the United screamer. It seems that the list is ever growing for Leighton Baines scorchers.

4) Age. At just 21 years of age, it would be a superb time to blood and give experience to a potential successor to Ashley Cole.

5) Experience. With over 130 appearances for the Latics, Baines has lots of experience for his short number of years.

6) Personality. The work ethic and team skills instilled by manager Paul Jewell mean that Baines could slot into any team.

7) Competition. Wayne Bridge and Phil Neville aren't even close to Baines in terms or talent and quality.

8) Consistency. Despite being young, Baines churns out solid, consistent perofrmances each week.

9) Composure. After one and a half top flight seasons and a cup final, Baines is no stranger to the big stage.

10) Quality. Above all other points, Leighton Baines has proven that he has the talent and quality to play at the very top. Now he deserves his chance.
