Season Review: Manchester City

Last updated : 02 June 2009 By Paul Farrington
How did your season go? Did Manchester City finish where you expected them to?
While it was disappointing to finish tenth, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. At Christmas, we were in the bottom three but by the end of the season, we were challenging for a Europa League place. We did reach the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup, something which was really not expected of us.

It will obviously take some time to get to where we want to be; Mark Hughes is trying to build a stable team getting regularly decent results. Other fans view our season as a disappointing one because of the money we have, but they should stop worrying about us and concentrate on their own teams.

Who was Manchester City's player of the year?
Stephen Ireland. Without a doubt City's best and most improved player.

Who were the best players you saw play against Manchester City?
Fernando Torres. When he's on form, he's awesome. Last season we kept him quiet at Eastlands but this year, we couldn't contain him.

Where do you need to strengthen this summer?
Central defence and attack. We need a towering centre back that isn't going to score own goals like Dunne and not taking their eyes off the game like Richards. A bulky forward to knock SWP's and Petrov's crosses in or just someone who can head the ball.

Who'll be on their way out?
Darius Vassell, Benjani, Ched Evans, Micah Richards, Michael Ball, Javier Garrido to name a few.

Your team's best 11 of the season?
Given
Zabaleta Dunne Richards Bridge
Wright-Phillips Ireland Elano Petrov
Robinho Bellamy
