Opinion: Time to do the business

The present run of form doesn’t make for pleasant reading with a run of defeats stretching back to the trip to Manchester City over a month ago.

Players and supporters alike are desperate to enjoy the taste of victory again and what better time to achieve maximum points that against our local rivals at the weekend.

Defeat does not bare thinking about and can almost be compared on a scale with the Warriors defeat to St Helens in the Super League playoffs less than two weeks ago. That defeat signalled the end to the Warriors’ season as local rivals Saints marched on to the Grand Final.

The visit of Bolton to the DW Stadium at the weekend is almost on a par as defeat could well be the first nail into the Latics coffin. Both sides are struggling at the foot of the table and both sides will be targeting a win.

These are the games where supporters need to forget the form book and forget past performances. This is a local derby, an early season relegation six pointer, and this is a game we are more than capable of winning.

Now is the time for Latics folk around the town to make sure they arrive in full voice and ensure they fully get behind their team. A win for the boys in blue and white would be a seriously big nail in the coffin of Bolton Wanderers, making victory taste even sweater.

This is a personal plea that supporters do just that for the duration. Get behind the team and show support. October is going to be a very important month in determining the outcome of our season and as supporters we have a big part to play.

Let’s ensure we support the Latics. There is plenty of room for negativity on the messageboards as we dissect problems post game. In the DW Stadium on Saturday there must only be positive supporters helping to drive the boys forward.

Up the Latics!
