Opinion: Overpaid stars need to shake their delusion

Home defeat's against Norwich City are not going to be enough for the Latics to survive in the Championship this season.

A decent display against promotion chasing Middlesbrough aside, the impact of new manager Malky Mackay has been luke warm at best.

Putting aside the irreparable damage done to our chairman and the reputation of the club as a whole, on the pitch affairs have been a damp squib in his first three games.

With a couple of weeks under his belt it is fair to say that the team to face Norwich City should be considered much more of a reflection of Mackay and he's had time to put some sort of stamp on affairs.

If Saturday's performance as an indicator of the future then now is the time to heap your spare cash on relegation.

The game start in a shocking manner with the Latics disorganised all over the field with a number of the players showing a poor attitude towards their current plight.

Andrew Taylor was too busy slipping over, and whinging at other players, a Jonny Howson had the best part of an eternity to find the bottom corner of the net after just eight minutes.

Taylor wasn't alone with his shocking attitude as Shaun Maloney strutted around the park with an air of grandeur that didn't befit his performance. The Scot was duly withdrawn early in the second half with what one must hpe was an injury.

Callum McManaman once more flattered to decieve on the wing. Too busy focussing on his anger with all things wrong in the world the young Liverpudlian winger once again had little impact on the game and offered meagre support to Fortune up top.

James McClean was operating in a new role in the centre of the field and his ineffectiveness could squarely be labelled at a manager playing the former Sunderland man well out of position.

Ben Watson and Chris McCann both still looked like players chasing full fitness so it must be questioned why the manager felt it necessary to leave Roger Espinoza on the bench for 82 minute whilst these two laboured in the centre of the field.

And then there is the matter of Fortune who was left alone and isolated for 82 minutes up front before Mackay felt it necessary to remove our only striker. A decision that seemed rooted in stupidity with the Latics 1-0 down at the time. Amusingly the home crowd's shout of 'where's our stikers gone' gave some relief from the pain on the pitch.

Scott Carson doesn't go unpunished either with the Cumbrian goalkeeper glued to his goal line for the duration of the game. He was completely unable to move to get his backside out and help his centre backs by claiming lofty crosses.

In a nut shell it was another dismal display from the Latics.

Blame can squarely be pointed at some appalling management decisions from Malky Mackay but at the same time we have some very talented players who are flattering to deceive and do not deserve to be paid in peanuts.

The league table doesn't lie and we are in a precarious position in the table. Time for the manager and players to realise this and positively perform to get the three points.

Norwich City came with two strikers and left with three points. With Delort firing them in for the reserves and Waghorn seemingly lost in the desert somewhere, we need to get two up top for the trip to Watford if only to give some support to Fortune.
