Opinion: Lady luck deserts us

Vicarage Road was always going to be a very difficult place to go so to suffer the early injury to Marc Antoine Fortune and the double disappointment of the disallowed goal and the penalty claim that wasn’t awarded must have been difficult to take.

Although the results perhaps haven’t been the best to date this season and our league position suggests there is a lot of work to do if a return to the top flight is to be secured, comfort can be gained from the improvements in recent weeks.

We’re now starting to look much more like a team and the players are starting to visibly gel as a squad. We learned a great deal over recent years however that performance don’t win prizes and much like the home game with Ipswich we need to learn how to win dirty.

As anticipated the games are coming in thick and fast in this division as the already fearsome league schedule teams up with the variety of cup competitions to give us an unenviable run of games.

Next up is the visit of Maribor in the Europa League tomorrow for another foray into the unknown. After having recently sacked their managed the Slovenian club represent a true visit of the unexplored to the DW Stadium.

Whatever can be said about not being in the Premier League, there is plenty of quantity to make up for the reduced quality this season.
