Opinion: International record a sign of Latics quality

Moses, Victor.JPGNo fewer than twelve of the first team squad received international call ups and jetted off to all corners of the globe to represent their nations.

The fact that this represents a record for the club serves to further underline the hard work that is going on to increase the strength of the club.

These are not small nations being represented either, amongst the bunch are Paraguay, Nigeria, Senegal, Ireland, Columbia, and the list goes on.

Further to this, the players called up from the Latics squad are youngsters of the right age. James McCarthy, Victor Moses, James McArthur, Momo Diame, and Hugo Rodallega not only represent the present, but also the future of the club.

It is an all too familiar story that the Latics squad is half full of 'has been' players who are just there until father time knocks on the exit door of their careers, but not any more.

Not only are these players already internationals, but many of them are under the age of 25 years.

Although the league table tells the wrong story at present, there is more than enough underlying quality in this Wigan team to comfortably pull away from the drop zone in the final games of the season.

And what is perhaps more exciting is that if the Latics pull it off, the squad is destined to look even stronger next season as the youngsters mature into their prime wearing Wigan Athletic shirts.

As ever, the future is as bright as we want it to be. The glass is half full, get down to the DW Stadium on Saturday and give Tottenham a polite reminder that a trip to Wigan can be as tough as the San Siro or the Bernabeau.
