Opinion: Birmingham is the turning point

..., it is very much time to get some points on the board, starting with Birmingham City at the weekend.

There is little point harping on about the tough time we have had with injuries, and the cruelty of the fixture list. Come the end of the season it is the points on the board that are the only thing that matters.

A visit to Chelsea apart, there is not one remaining fixture for the Latics where three points cannot be a realistic aim. The same cannot be said for those clubs in and around the drop zone, many of whom are not performing to the levels appreciated by those supporters who witnessed the recent displays against three of the biggest North West clubs.

The players have been away to La Manga for the past week, another example of good management from Roberto Martinez as he takes his players away from the ridicule that large portions of the national press confront the Latics with. Instead the team have enjoyed the Spanish sunshine and added an even stronger depth to their team work and determination to get points on the board.

Roberto Martinez has called on supporters to make the DW Stadium an intimidating place to visit. Latics fans are top notch at creating a real partisan atmosphere for crucial games and Saturday’s visit of Birmingham City is certainly one such game.

With Emmerson Boyce back to sure up the defence, there is a full strength side to select from. Hopefully Charles N’Zogbia will be purring against the club that wanted to sign him and Hugo Rodallega will find those shooting boots again, whatever colour they may be.

There are now twenty-seven points left to play for and the Latics are still just six points away from mid-table. It is without any form of conservatism that I urge each and every person with an interest in Wigan Athletic to show their colours and support their team this weekend. Get down to the DW Stadium and get behind the team 110%, we are Wigan Athletic, and we are going to give everything we have to stay in the Premier League.
