Opinion: Hugo will be missed

The sale of Charles N'Zogbia over the summer was a tough enough blow for many Latics fans but the recent injury to Rodallega now sees the Latics without their two top scorers from last term.

The big question to ask though is that of club versus country. Both Antolin Alcaraz and Hugo Rodallega, two vital players for the Wigan team are now out for three months. Both players endured the long relegation battle of last season and were then proud to represent their countries at the Copa America.

After a very short break and an even shorter pre-season the duo were thrown back into the hustle-and-bustle of everyday Premier League life. Alcaraz was the first to drop. The Paraguyuan was involved all the way to the final for his country and so it was perhaps little surprise to see him suffer a quad muscle injury against Swansea City in his first game of the season.

Rodallega was next up, suffering was seems to be s knee ligament rupture in Saturday's game with Everton, he too looks set for three months on the sidelines.

At the end of last season, Rodallega, Alcaraz, and N'Zogbia would have been three players that Latics fans would have wanted to play every game this term. With one sold and two out until Christmas Roberto Martinez has a big job on his hands.

Of course, Franco di Santo, Victor Moses, and Connor Sammon are all ready to step up to the plate, in particular di Santo who has netted three times already this season. Then there are others, Shaun Maloney and Albert Crusat arrived on transfer deadline day, whilst McArthur, Jones, McCarthy, Diame, and Watson make up a strong looking engine room.

The trouble for the Latics is always in the goals department. We've (touch-wood) finally stopped leaking the soft ones at the back, so it is about time we kicked on and started scoring some ourselves. The latest injury to Rodallega has poured more pressure on di Santo, but the way the young Argentine is playing at the moment, he'll be in double figures by the time Hugo comes back into the fold.
