Observer season preview

Last updated : 30 July 2010 By Paul Farrington

1. What are you expecting from 2010-11? Feeling positive, or worried? Please include an exact prediction of your finishing position.

At the moment the feeling is very positive and Roberto Martinez seems to be building a very strong squad, much better than we're used to. İf we can keep hold of our big players we could be a surprise package. The team also has a youthful look to it so hopefully it will be the Wigan team of the next few years. Mauro Boselli is the jewel of the summer signings and should he manage the hit the ground running in terms of goals we will impress.

2. Are you happy with what the club have done in the transfer market this summer?

At present yes. We have managed to keep hold of our key players and have added some real talent. Boseeli really excites me as he is a goalscorer, whilst James McArthur could prove to be another bargain. Antolin Alcaraz will soften the blow of Bramble leaving, he proved another Martinez bargain with his World Cup performances.

3. Who will be your stars this season?

At present I dare say the same as last season with Charles N'Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega leading the way. Mauro Boselli ıs tipped to do well, whilst Victor Moses could really shine this year.

4. Who are the most promising youngsters?

James McCarthy won our young player of the year award last season and he is likely to impress again this season, whilst Victor Moses could cause a few defences problems.

5. Who will your boo-boys target? (ie your weakest regular player)

We can't wait for Olivier Kapo, Jason Koumas and Daniel de Ridder to clear off. The three of them are just a drain on the club's payroll.

6. Who do your fans love to hate at other clubs? Players, managers, chairmen etc?

We don't like Bolton for obvious neighbourly reasons, but other than that there aren't too many hate figures. Although it would be nice if people would consider us on merit and give us credit for our good performances rather than the size of our club. Newcastle went down for a reason.

7. Who'll win the title?

I think Manchester United will get it back.

8. Which three clubs will go down?

I'll stick my neck out and say Blackpool will survıve. Holloway has something about hım and everyone wrote us off when we came up. West Ham, Birmingham City and West Brom for the drop.
