DVD Review: A well presented reminder of a rollercoaster season

As Lee McCulloch comments at the close of the DVD, Paul Jewell has taken this club from nothing, all the way to becoming an established club in the Premiership.

Although the 2006/07 season was not as successful as the previous season, it was neverthless a very important step in the club's progression as a top flight club.

Certainly at the heart of that was the immense determination of Paul Jewell. Many of the new signings took time to settle and the DVD illustrates that the club went through some very difficult patches of results.

However we came out on top and by the margin of one goal, managed to survive.

The DVD also serves as a perfect reminder that perhaps Paul Jewell had taken the club as far as he could. The former boss has done so much for this club, but after his comments this week, it is clear that he needs a new challenge.

Chris Hutchings has already got his teeth well and truely into the job, with plenty of new, big name signings being touted. Titus Bramble, Antoine Sibierski and Mario Melchiot have already signed up and the future looks bright.

I always like to watch these reviews as it reminds you exactly how far the club has come. Not only the fact that we have such a high quality review at the end of the season, but also the calibre of player that we have at the club is constantly improving.

Certainly, Lace have produced a fine DVD that is well worth the money. It is sharp and to the point, with some good player opinions along the way.

Featuring every goal of the campaign alongside all those moments of controversy. It is without doubt a good reminder of how close we came to the drop, and also that the never-say-die spirit lives on at the JJB.

Perhaps a little short of player interviews and reaction as extras, the DVD certainly charts our progession through the season very well.

There is little dwelling no the defeats that were suffered and no gloating about the final day victory.

It features plenty if insight into just how the manager got that final day performance from his players.

You can also watch exteneded highlights of the Sheffield United game in hte extras section. Certainly one that will be played over and over as years go by, by many a Latics fan.

If you are a person who does not enjoy highlight programmes then this DVD is not for you, as aside from the goals, there is not heavy player reaction.

What this DVD gives, is a simple, sharp reaction to the season with all the goals and important player reaction. As I have previosuly mentioned, perhaps a little more reaction would be welcomed, but this is a cracking DVD that will rekindle those memories for years to come.

My only hope for next season would be for Chris hutchings to take us to the next level. Paul Jewell has established the club in the top flight, now it is the challenge of the new manager to take us up a notch.

Rating: 4/5. Would have been five with a few more extras, perhaps including a little more player reaction.
