Update 1: Great North Run

The Great North Run
I have always enjoyed a bit of a jog in the gym before doing some weight training, but to think that I was up to running a half marathon may have been taking things a bit too far.

At the moment, I could probably manage the 13.1 miles, but my time would not be particularly respectable, and I would more than likely be in a bad way at the end.

I run about four miles twice a week in the gym, but that is nothing too strenuous and clearly will have to be stepped up if I am to post a decent time at the end of September.

Although there is a long way to go until the run, I can bet that it will be here before I know it, and I won't be as prepared as I would like.

That is the reason for keeping this log on the website! Surely by having to update this, I will be motivated to step up my training in preparation for the run itself.

If I am beign honest, I want to try and post a time of under two hours, anything quicker than that would be a huge bonus for my first long distance run.

Anyway, less about me, and more about the real reason for running.

My chosen charity is Breast Cancer Care, and you can read more about the charity by visiting their website (HERE), and also read my reasons for running on my Just Giving site (HERE).

So here is my first training update and a log of the work I've done so far this week.

Sunday: Forty-five minutes cross-trainer at 225 watts and leg weights.

Monday: Five minutes quick rowing (1410m) and weight training.

Tuesday: 4.5 mile run, average speed 6.7 mph and average gradient 2.5%.

Wednesday: Day-off (Champions League Final)

If you would like to sponsor me on the run you can do so by visiting my Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/paulfarrington

All support will be gratefully received by Breast Cancer Care and much appreciated by myself.

Thank you!
