West Ham Reaction: Bobby pleased with three points

Here is the reaction of the two managers.

Roberto Martinez

He (Rodallega) really earned his goal today after running himself into the ground all afternoon. He gave everything for us today and he has that winning mentality, which is sometimes the difference between a winning and a losing dressing room.

He wanted to score; at half-time he told me 'I'm going to score' and he was so sure of himself. So in that respect he worked hard for it and deserved his goal.

Hendry Thomas, Maynor Figueroa and Jason Scotland had also had long flights this week but they and the rest of the team were prepared and ready to give their all for the club which was pleasing.

Mohamed Diame and Thomas were brilliant. The more they play together you can see the more they are helping each other and making a big impact on games, particularly today.

It's a vital area they're working in as well, anything that happens in a game normally goes through the midfield so it was good that they gave that performance. But we're starting to see partnerships all over the park now and in training which is a big positive.

You could see the team gelling together, growing and the chemistry with the fans was fantastic. We needed everyone's help and you could see at the end that every supporter made sure the points were staying here.

That's a big thing for me and it's something we're going to need over the course of the season.

Slowly we're getting that winning mentality and making the right decisions on the pitch. The players are showing the desire to win football games for Wigan Athletic and the things we're trying to do in training are coming together. Overall though the lesson we take from today was the sense of unity we had as a club helped us to get the result we deserved.

On the playing side of things there were very good phases of football during the game, and we stopped a very good West Ham side from playing their game, which isn't easy. But the one memory that will stay with me was the chemistry with the fans, it was special.

We now have two tough games ahead of us, but every game is going to be difficult in the Premier League. We need to make sure that we recover well, rest well and build on these three points to be ready for Arsenal.

Gianfranco Zola

After the first half I thought we were going to get more than a draw because of the way we were playing. But this was not the first time that we didn't start the second half at the same level as the first and we have to find out why during the week. This is something we have to work on.

I think it was a scrappy goal that we conceded and maybe we should have done better. We will have a look during the week. I am expecting the team to play a little bit better than they did today.

Robert Green did a great save. The first one was brilliant. To be honest, I haven't seen the moments after the rebound, but in those moments you have to be very active, so I was expecting the others to be more reactive. I will say I will be more precise when I see it.

Next game

Next up for the Latics is the difficult trip to Arsenal. The Gunners have lost their last two games and will be hoping for a return to winning ways.
