United Reaction: Super Maynor

Last updated : 12 May 2008 By Paul Farrington
At 0-0 the Latics should have had a penalty after Ferdinand's blatent handball, Scholes should have been sent off for a second yellow and Emmerson Boyce was hard done by for United's penalty.

All in all referee Steve Bennett had a terrible game and can feel releived that the Latics did not need a result to stay in the Premiership, although Chelsea will be a little more unhappy.

Here is the reaction of the two manager's.

Steve Bruce

Paul Scholes will go down as one of United's greats. Everything about him is top, top drawer. He knows he got away with it today. Had it been any other day it was another yellow card and he should have been off.

You should ask the referee about his integrity, not about my team. Thankfully there was nothing riding on it for us but I have to say three decisions in the first half were absolutely unbelievable.

You would have thought Rio had gloves on and to say the penalty we conceded was harsh is an understatement.

There is an honesty and integrity in this league. We have put up a hell of show and it has taken a really good team to beat us. Bolton have gone to Chelsea and got a draw. I don't think that would happen anywhere else around Europe.

Sir Alex Ferguson

I am very proud to have survived so long but I am at a great club which makes it easier for me than the rest. It was a great goal to settle us down - it gave us a two-goal cushion.

I said before the game that I am not bothered about records. This is what it is about, championships and trophies. I hope we can win another one in 10 days' time.
