Jewell told Wiganathletic.tv:
"There was plenty of effort, plenty of huff and puff but we probably lacked that bit of quality when it mattered, and we got punished for the mistakes we made. That's basically the summary of today.

"I think we started well but then after just seven minutes they broke on their first attack and we've made a mistake. We gave an away team something to hang on to and they didn't have to come out. Then they played counter football, and they played it very well.

"There was loads of endeavour, loads of effort, but when it mattered we didn't have that touch of quality today.I cannot fault the players for effort and determination. It's just that we were a bit susceptible at times when we've got the ball.

"We have so many attacking players in the team that sometimes we forget that we have to keep our shape, and we get a little bit stressed at times. The first goal was just a mistake, but from then it on it we were going uphill.

"They're human beings and everyone makes mistakes. In the last two games, we've made two mistakes and we have been punished. That is the nature of this league.

"You don't usually get back at teams when you give them an opportunity and then they punish you. But lets keep things in perspective, we are still third in the league.

"John Filan has not been completely fit, and I've got two good goalkeepers. It was not because John made a mistake last week at all, it's because he was not 100% fit, so I gave Pollitt the chance."

Martin Jol

"They are a very strong team. I can’t say we were the better team, but I think we deserved the win. Up until their goal I don’t think they had a chance.
"We didn’t play that well in the second half, but I think the poor condition of the pitch at the JJB Stadium was a reason for that."
