Stoke Reaction: Bruce laments lack of spark

Here is the reaction of both sides.

Steve Bruce

We were the ones trying to win the game. Fair play to Stoke. They came with a game plan and got everyone back behind the ball.

We needed to score to make the game a spectacle, and the longer it went on it became one of those horrible ones to watch.

What we wanted was for one of our flair players to shine, Koumas, Zaki, Heskey or Valencia. But it wasn't their day.

We needed one of them to produce a telling pass, show a bit of quality, beat their man. But it just didn't quite happen, our delivery wasn't right.

Stoke parked the bus in front of their goal and that frustrated everyone in the stadium except their fans.

We handled Stoke's throw-ins very well, and our outstanding players were the defenders. They were excellent.

Titus Bramble gave us an absolute beast of a performance, and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland did well too.

A clean sheet is always very welcome, we just needed that bit more quality at the other end of the pitch.

Andy Griffin (Stoke captain)

As a club, you have to be selfish and our way of football has got us results. We want to survive in the Premier League. We're not in it to please other people.

I played against Arsenal for Derby last year and lost 5-0 and it wasn't very nice. I know which I prefer.

We feel if we can beat Arsenal, then surely on our day we can do the same against United or anyone.
