"I thought today's first half performance was as poor as we can be. It wasn't a very good game in the first half, and our energy levels and desire were nowhere near what they should be.

"At least we had a go in the second half, but you can't play for forty-five minutes at this level and expect to win games.

"It would be easy for me to say that tiredness was the reason, but I don't think that is a valid enough excuse for supporters to hear, because they showed enough energy in the second half, but they should have shown it from the start.

"It was a bit worrying because it is not something that you associate with us.

"It was a poor goal because we let Gillespie cross from the right, and then it was crossed back in from Quinn, and it was so alien to how we normally deal with things. I think that was the first shot on target for both sides."

"At least the players responded in the second half, but give Sheffield United credit, they stuck in there. We huffed and puffed but didn't really have the quality or look like we had the belief to score a goal."

"We played the right way and got the right result. It is a difficult place here, but we are genuine bunch and there was not a weakness in the team.

"Outside Sheffield, people don't really know this bunch of players but they will give everything and I couldn't have asked for any more from them.

"The pitch was not very good and we talked about playing the channels and we did that very well. I thought Quinn and Gillespie, to say that they are forwards-thinking players, did tremendously well.

"The fans were fantastic, they never shut up and that is what the whole club is about."
