"I thought in the second half we were the better team, we had two great chances but we didn't take them. Last week against Fulham we probably didn't deserve a point, but here we deserved something and got nothing. It's very disappointing for us.

"If we take our chances we win the game, but we haven't and we've lost it in the last minute. "We're very disappointed. It's a long way back up the motorway when you come this far and don't get anything out of the game."

The Latics boss was complimentary of the referee who changed his mind regarding his first half penalty decision. Hutch added: "I think it was out of the box, so we've got no complaints about that. It's a tough job and you've just got to hope they get the decisions right."

And speaking of Aghahowa's late chance, Hutch said: "I don't know whether he stumbled, or whether the 'keeper did clip him. We should have scored from that situation. I was screaming at him to put it in the back of the net."

"We desperately needed that win. Psychologically it was so important given the circumstances. Goals, as Brian Clough said, affect games. Our one stopped us from playing, their one gave them confidence and the final one thank heaven finished it!

"It's not how you win a game, it's just the very fact that you won it. And we won it. Not in a convincing fashion. And seven points lifts us out of the bottom three."
