Reading Reaction: Rosler's perfect performance

First half goals from Jordi Gomez and Martyn Waghorn put the Latics into cruise control at the end of the first half. Callum McManaman then added a third early in the second half to seal the game for the Latics.

Uwe Rosler was understandably pleased with his sides performance and he told the club's official website: “I feel we played the first 40 minutes to perfection. The only thing we didn’t do in the first half was score more goals.

“In the second half we needed to keep the tempo up and keep Reading out of the game, that’s exactly what we did and our third goal came at exactly the right time.

“After that we kept our tempo up and to play that type of football at this time of the year, I don’t think many opponents would be able to handle today’s performance.”

Rosler switched around the forward three for the game with Martyn Waghorn leading the line as Nick Powell, Marc Antoine Fortune, and Nicky Maynard had to make do with a place on the bench.

He was ably supported by Shaun Maloney and Callum McManaman and the Latics looked as dangerous as they have all season.

“The work from the front three was terrific, they made exactly the impact I wanted them to do and at times they were completely unplayable," added Rosler.

“Martyn Waghorn played an unusual role today, he interpreted it very well because he’s not used to playing straight through the middle.

“Everything went to plan and hopefully now we can recover for Monday which is another big one against Burnley.”

The victory cemented the Latics place in the play off place with 70 points, six points clear of now seventh placed Reading.

Next up is the tough trip to face Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday afternoon. Tickets are still available for the game and can be bought on the day if required.
