"In the first half we had complete control of the game, we could have had two or three goals, and we hit the crossbar, and their goalkeeper has pulled off some good saves, and we were in the ascendancy before we gave a daft goal away.

"That's been our Achilles heel on this run we have been having. In the second half, we lose Lee McCulloch and then Emile Heskey and we end up looking a bit disjointed. The injuries don't help and to lose two of our better players is a struggle for us.

"We conceded a crazy second goal and the third goal is offside. We kept going and then we scored a consolation goal but in the end it was bad defending that has cost us the game. We battled on but it wasn't enough."

"Both teams were better going forward than at the back. We lost a goal quickly and then they had a couple of good chances. I just wanted to get to half time but we gradually got more into it. We had some good play in the second half but it was stop-start.

"The third goal was a huge relief and I think our drive as the home side made the difference. Overall, it's a game best put to bed. We've got a hard one at Man City on Saturday and we won't be spending long on a post mortem for this one.

"The way we gave goals away, we needed to score so many. The surface is bony, and we missed Sonko. He's an important player, and with Ivar he has an understanding that stretches back three years. Whenever anyone comes in, no matter what position, something is not quite right."
