Middlesbrough Reaction

Here is the reaction of the two managers.

Steve Bruce

It's been difficult for us with the loss of Emile Heskey and Wilson Palacios last month, and with the injury to Antonio Valencia we've lost that cutting-edge that we had.

We want to get that back but it's never going to be easy because we've had to make too many changes to the squad.

Having said that, I've seen flashes today of the likes of Ben Watson and Charles N'Zogbia who both had very good games.

The longer the game went on I thought we became more comfortable and towards the end we looked as though we could win it.

But unfortunately the couple of chances we did have we couldn't convert. I'm sure we'll keep on improving as the we go along and to get to this point of the season and find ourselves in 7th place is a fantastic achievement.

Gareth Southgate

I'm conscious that almost everyone outside this club has already written us off, and that gives us the opportunity to face the final third of the season without fear. We might as well go for it!

It's going to be hard, no question. We've got a fight on our hands but we are not done yet, there's still a lot of football to be played.

Every time we go out is an opportunity. We play Liverpool on Saturday and people will already be writing that off but not us.

It's a blow, Didier's an important player for us. It unsettled out rhythm and had a big effect on the game.

Lee played the way he plays, he's strong in the tackle. He timed it right to take everything, it was an opportunity he'd been waiting for.
