"It's a point gained rather than two points lost. If it had been the other way round and we had been trailing at half-time and come back to score in the second half everyone would be happy.

"We did create chances, but in the second half, Boro came back strongly and had chances of their own.

"I was just glad to get something out of the game because the players were affected by what happened to Kirky. It's not easy when you see a team mate suffering and it seemed to have an impact on the flow of the game.

"It was probably one of my hardest ever half-time team talks, to keep the players' minds focused on the job at hand.

"The main thing is that Kirky is alright, but I am pleased with the way the players dug in and held tight after the equaliser. Chelsea lost here and this is never an easy place to come and get something.

"Four points from the last two away games is creditable, and an excellent way to bounce back from the Liverpool game last weekend.

"Now we go into the Arsenal match full of optimism and with the belief that we can not only get something from the game, but that we can win it."

Gareth Southgate

"The second half was one-way traffic. In the first half up until the penalty, we were the better side, but there was a period just after that where Mark Schwarzer kept us in the game.

"I was pleased with the response we got because when you go in a goal behind in the position we are in, it can hit your confidence. But the second half was probably as well as we have played this season."

"He [Schwarzer] got better every year I played with him and this season, he has been outstanding for us. He is as good as there is in the league, not only with the saves he makes, but the crosses he comes for.

"He affects the game in a way other goalkeepers perhaps do not. They do not even come for things he comes and gets. He has been outstanding."
