Manchester City Reaction: We were better

Last updated : 02 March 2008 By Paul Farrington
Here is the reaction of the two managers.

Steve Bruce

I hope it is the point we need that keeps us afloat. For me we were the better team and all week we have been saying if we can keep it tight and frustrate them especially with the result they had in mid week [City lost 2-0 at home to Everton], then we thought we could maybe pick them off.

We had the opportunities to do it in the last twenty minutes to do that but unfortunately we didn't take the chances but overall it was a fantastic display.

I think this team has the threat of a goal but the big problem that we needed to do was to stop conceding. We have worked a lot on the discipline and the shape of the team and thankfully for the moment it is starting to bear fruit.

There are only two points between ourselves and twelfth position so anything is capable of happening and there is still a long way to go. If anything it was difficult for us today.

Sven Goran Eriksson

We have to keep working and not think that the season is over. We worked hard to get the goal tonight, like we did against Everton, we got better as the game went on.

Joe Hart saved us at the end as well but it is very difficult to break down these kind of teams, Wigan are hard-working, physically strong and their two strikers created problems for us.

But it's up to us, we must keep working and it's forbidden to throw the towel in now. Europe is still there and waiting for us if we take the chance.

Next Game

Next up for Steve Bruce and his team is a visit from Arsenal to the JJB Stadium. The game has been moved to Sunday with a 16.00 kick off.

That may not be enough time for the pitch to recover following the rugby game that took place yesterday evening. The pitch looked appauling come the end of that game and Fabregas and co. will not be excited by the proespect of playing in a mud bath.

On second thoughts, leave the pitch as it is...
