Jewell's Reaction to the goal-less draw with Q.P.R.

Jewell said: "We had some good chances, but the only criticism really is that we didn't work the goalkeeper hard enough really. We missed the target rather than making them work, but there was only one side that wanted to win the game. It didn't fall for us, although I believe you make your own luck on this game. Today it just didn't drop for us at the right time.

Roberts: Rattled the inside of the post
"We're disappointed that we didn't get the three points that we thought we deserved. But credit to QPR, they came here with nothing to play for, but they played for pride. They came with a game plan to try and make it difficult and frustrate us. For the first goal in a game like this was always going to be vital. Had we got one, they have to come out and maybe we would have won comfortably. But the longer it went on, the more they had something to hold on to.

"We've had a few games like that this season, that maybe if we had scored an early goal we would have gone on to win the game more comfortably. It could have been worse - they almost broke on us on the last minute.

"Tonight we are disappointed, but in the cold light of day we still have two points more than Ipswich, and on paper we have two difficult fixtures, theirs are arguably easier than ours, but if out match today was to be played on paper, it would have gone down as a home win. At this stage of the season you get a lot of funny results and there is an awful lot to play for yet."

It is certainly something that needs addressing. When the Latics play at home to a side who defend with ten men behind the ball, the Latics just cannot break them down.

This is why I am thankful for Preston and Reading as a final two. This may sound alarming but both of these sides will attack us and will want all three points. As a consiquence the Latics should get a result. Rather than struggling to break down a mid-table side with nothing to play for.
