Jewell - We deserved our win

"It's great to pick up our first win and I think we thoroughly deserved it. I was a little disappointed at half time because although we played some nice football, we didn't appear to have the belief required to go and get a goal. However, second half we were much more threatening and I felt the two goals were the least we deserved.

PJ was pleased to get our first win of the season
"We scored two fine goals from our point of view and Lee McCulloch has done well for us again and it was a good header after fine play on the right. It was also pleasing to see Jason Roberts get off the mark for the season because I like to see my strikers scoring and the way he worked space in a tight area showed what he's all about.

"I also thought we defended well and stood up to their aerial threat manfully when they started to play longer balls after making the three substitutions. All in all it was a good night for us and needless to say I'm very pleased. However, we will not be getting carried away as this is only the start of a very long season but I must say it's nice to record the club's first win at Millwall as I believe this was our tenth attempt!

"I'd also like to thank those supporters of ours that made the trip down as it's a long way on a Tuesday night and I believe the weather was appalling when they left the north this morning. I'm delighted we've been able to give them the win they wanted and we now travel to West Ham full of confidence, looking forward to the game."
