Ipswich Reaction: Rosler laments bullied Latics

The away side came with a physical game plan and it worked against a timid Wigan Athletic first 80 minutes.

Callum McManaman was forced from the field as events were a little too bruising for his liking and the remaining players failed to match the aggressive nature in which the Tractor Boys operated.

“The defeat was hard to swallow,” said Rosler. “I disagree with what Mick McCarthy said, that Ipswich dominated the game and that they could have won by more goals.

“I have to compliment them though, they roughened us up and bullied us at times in the first half.

“We had a decent start, but we couldn’t get any momentum up because we couldn’t stay on the ball.

“We couldn’t compete today in periods of the first half, we weren’t good enough in standing up to Ipswich.

“I was very happy with the response in the last 20 minutes, but it was very difficult in the situation we got ourselves into, but we kept it going and that speaks volumes for the character of the players and I think we should have been rewarded with at least a draw.

“In general we can’t afford to start becoming brave and competitive when we’re already on the losing end of things. We have to start games in the same manner we ended this one.”

Next up for the Latics is a trip to face Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday. The Cherries are notoriously difficult to beat on their home turf and it will be another stern test for the Latics who need a result to get hte season back on track.
