Hull City Reaction: Silly mistakes cost Latics

Bob's men dominated possession but couldn't convert this into goals. Jason Scotland and Paul Scharner continued with their good performances and deserve to keep the places ahead of Gomez and Koumas.

However it was disappointing to see two simple goals conceeded so close together by the Latics who need to erradicate these silly errors from their performances.

Here is the reaction of the two managers.

Unfortunately that's football; each week you're faced with different challenges and situations. Today, I thought we found a lot of answers to how Hull played and we controlled the open-play really well. It's just disappointing that a loss in concentration has cost us the game.

There were many things we did well, but unfortunately we made one or two mistakes and some individual errors that gave the three points to Hull City.

We tried to be ourselves and settled into the game really well, but when you concede cheap goals from set-pieces it becomes very difficult, and our focus and concentration wasn't as good as it should have been.

We enjoyed a lot of possession, moved the ball around well and slowly we began to dictate things. But concentration is a big word in football and when you lose that you get punished.

If you stay focused and concentrate you can deal with set-piece situations. It's important that we bounce back from this, after what has been a very demanding month in which we got a couple of excellent results. But we'll learn from this, take it into account and continue to grow.

It was great for Scott to score his first Premier League goal and I allow him to grow in confidence and grow as a player.

He's going to play a big part in the team this season; he has electric pace, good control and will be a big asset to us.

Phil Brown

It's a big three points for everyone's confidence, everyone's mentality. We had to get back to the basics of being difficult to play against. It is getting both ends of the field right and today I thought we got the majority right.

It was not just the performance but the week's work. It gained its reward by being not nice to play against. They have worked hard this week. Privileges were taken away, not petulantly, but they were just taken away.

You have to earn the right to anything you get in the game and I think we got away from that. Joy springs to mind - I don't feel relief. It's more that I'm pleased for the players.

Next game

What with the international break and all next week, the Latics next game is the visit of high flying Mancehester City to the DW Stadium a week on Sunday for a 4pm kick off.
