Huddersfield Reaction: Coyle praise for loanee Powell

The young attacking midfielder has been very impressive for the Latics during his loan spell from Manchester United and his winning goal yesterday was thoroughly deserved.

Latics manager Owen Coyle is notably pleased with the former Crewe man and singled Powell out for praise following his sides 2-1 win over Huddersfield.

Speaking to the club's official website Coyle said: “Every day at the training ground he steals my cans of Irn Bru, telling me that with each can he takes he’ll pay me back with a goal!

“To be fair he’s come up trumps on a few occasions so I’ll have to make sure I’ve got plenty in during the season!”

“He tried to dummy a ball in a dangerous area and it’s typical of our luck lately that the error led to a goal, heading in off Ryan Shotton’s heel with the initial shot was heading nowhere.

“But at half-time he came to me and said, ‘don’t worry Gaffer, I’ll go and get the winner’ and true to his word that’s what he did. His confidence is high and there’s no doubting his ability, so it was great to see him get what proved to be the winner.”

There was also praise for the team as a whole who are in the thick of a glut of games with 7 fixtures in the space of 22 days and Cole added:  “They were three well-earned points in a game we had to win twice; at 1-0 we were in control but shot ourselves in the foot conceding the goal as we did before the break.

“We went in search of that elusive third goal thereafter, and although Huddersfield came here on the back of a good victory against Leeds they did little to trouble our goal.

“I have to say that I also think we were denied two clear penalties today, following fouls on Marc-Antoine Fortune and Marc Albrighton, and I’m not sure what it is we have to do to win one.

“But overall I couldn’t be happier with the boys today, they’ve been a credit to themselves once again."

Next up for the Latics is the trip to Russia to face Rubin Kazan on Thursday in a game that kicks off at 5pm UK time.
