Everton Reaction: Martinez pleased with the performance

Martinez told the club's official website: "I feel very proud at the manner in which we performed for long spells at Goodison Park; we looked like the home team at times, got on the ball well and created very good chances.

"Obviously you have to take those chances when they come along and in a way that final pass was not there at times, but scoring the first goal away from home from open play is one of the hardest things to achieve in football but we did that and deserved it.

"Conceding so early afterwards from a corner and another goal from a cross in the second half was all we really had to deal with from Everton.

"We worked very hard off the ball to stop them being a threat and if we had played that game ten times we would have come away with a result on the other nine occasions which shows how cruel the game can be.

"They could not gain any momentum and when we had the ball we were effective and useful, looking a real threat going forward.

"However, at this stage of the season, I would rather take a performance over a result because I think that this kind of display will allow us to get many results later on in the campaign.

"This experience will make us more determined next week against Tottenham at the DW Stadium; we were a joy to watch and played with the kind of arrogance we've come to expect.

"I know we can't celebrate a winning result but we can be delighted with a performance that will bring us points further down the line."
