Everton Reaction: Martinez hails improving Latics

Here is the reaction of the two managers.

Roberto Martinez

I would have been very disappointed had we come away with just a point; I thought our performance deserved all three.

It took us a while to find our feet, but we defended well in that time, and although we had to change things round a bit in the first-half, we stayed very resilient off the ball and worked well for each other.

Everton are always going to put you under pressure with their aerial threat but I thought we dealt with that really well.

We knew things would open up in the second-half and we took advantage of that, created chances and could have killed the game off once we went ahead. There were just two moments where we didn't concentrate and Everton took advantage.

There were a lot of decisions that didn't go our way and that can create a bit of momentum for the other team. Overall I'm really disappointed with the result because the players deserved at least a point with the effort they put in. They don't deserve the feeling they have right now.

David Moyes

It was a tough game all in all, Wigan made it hard for us, but I thought we controlled most of the game, created a lot of opportunities, and we were always on top.

I think a lot of people were probably surprised when Wigan took the lead. But if you don't take your chances the opposition can always score and they did - and could have even got a second if I'm honest because they've then hit the post.

But if we hadn't won it I think we'd have scratched our heads afterwards because we certainly controlled the game. We deserved the winner and from what I saw the penalty was correct.

Next game

Next up for the Latics is the visit of West Ham United on September 12th. Hopefully they will manage to keep their supporters under control for this one.
