Doncaster raced in to a 2-0 first half lead before goals from Shaun Maloney and Leon Barnett brought the scores level.

Former Manchester City striker and now manager at Doncaster, Paul Dickov, commented after the game that there were plenty of positive for his side to take away from the game.

Speaking to the Doncaster Rovers Official Website, he said: “Being 2-0 up you want to try and see the game out.

“The one thing we were up against today was a top quality team with a lot of international and Premier League class players.

“To come here and compete like we did and get a point from the game shows how far we have all come as a group in a short space of time. It’s disappointing being 2-0 up and not winning the game, but there were lots of positives to take from tonight.

“You know when you come here that Wigan are going to have a lot of possession you also know that they are going to create chances - I thought defensively we were magnificent.

“I can’t speak highly enough of my boys for the attitude and desire they have show and the willingness to go and do what we have asked them to.”

Doncaster were League One Champions last season and are clearly trying to carry on their good form into the Championship.
