City Reaction: Bruce pleased with battling display

Here is the reaction of the respective managers.

Steve Bruce

I remember making my debut for Norwich against Liverpool when I was playing, the champions. I had just gone there from Gillingham and I wanted to make a big impression and I headed into my own net after thirty seconds - it was as bad as that!

All your plans go out of the window because as a manager the one thing you can't legislate for is an individual mistake, and to be fair to him, he recovered after that.

But in fairness the response was terrific. They could have folded, and City could have damaged us but they managed to make a fist of it. But it was a horrific start.

Considering everything went against us at the start, losing [Emile] Heskey for almost an hour, and then going down to ten men I thought it anyone was going to nick it then it was going to be us. I can't really remember our goalkeeper having too much to do, and there wasn't much in the game at all but at least the response was good.

The Premier League is unforgiving and I have been involved in it for a few years now and ready for a scrap but the reason why I am here, is that I have looked at the squad and I genuinely believe that I can keep the club in the Premier League. That's why I am here.

If the players keep showing that commitment, and the big players stay fit, people like Valencia, Heskey all the big players we need to stay fit to give us a chance.

Sven Goran Eriksson

It looked easy in the beginning but then Wigan came back and it's ended up as a draw. We got a very easy goal at the start. It was a bad mistake by the defender, but to be fair, we gave a goal away very easily as well. Two mistakes we can say.

A draw is okay but I spoke to the players after the match and we all feel we should win games like this and we should maybe do a little bit better. Work's going on to try to do better in the future, even away from home, because if you want to be fighting high up in the table I think you have to win games like this.

If we could just take half a step more we would have more points. But it's a new team and a young team and I am not disappointed. Maybe in the future we could be better.

I said before today that it would be a very difficult game here because of their situation in the table. It was the new manager's first match at home and in one way it's not bad to take one point. We didn't create many chances and neither did they.
