Chelsea Reaction: Martinez disgusted with officials

The Latics have shown an incrediable resurgence in form over the past two months and this looked set to continue against Chelsea with Martinez's side offering stern resistence to the Stamford Bridge side.

However when Branislav Invanovic's goal was allowed to stand, despite the Chelsea player being in a clear offside position, referee Mike Jones and his assistant Dave Bryan clearly illustrated their allegencies.

Martinez was spot on with his 'disgusting' analagy. There can be no FA punish levied at the Latics boss as this would be a clear message of support for basic incompetant refereeing.

Speaking about the decision Martinez told the club's official website: "It is heartbreaking but, it is heartbreaking for reasons that we cannot control. There were two wrong decisions that should have been spotted.

"From start to finish we did what we had to do which is to try to come here and win the football game. We stopped Chelsea from having any joy on the ball and we also looked a threat going forward.

"The first goal is a real blow for us because to concede in that matter when it is clearly offside is a bad feeling.

"We came back really well because we were really composed and got back on level terms with a fantastic strike from open play. In every aspect of the game that you can analyse, we were very, very good and that is what pleases me."

Subsitute Momo Diame managed a fantastic equaliser for the Latics as he hammered home from twenty yards with a powerful left foot drive, but the dynamic dup of Jones and Bryan were not yet finished.

Short of awarding a phantom goal, anything would have been believeable from these two and so it was unsurprising when Juan Mata's late strike, again from an offside position, was allowed to stand for the Blues.

The Latics were left with nothing when they should have had everything. Martinez summed it up perfectly when he said: “The linesman had a disgusting performance.

“My players were robbed and now they have a disgusting feeling they don’t deserve.

“Someone asked me if it’s time to bring in technology. No, it’s just time to bring in referees and linesmen who know the rules. There is a real feeling of injustice in our dressing room.”
