Chelsea Reaction

Paul Jewell

"We showed great character, and we played great football, and Chelsea were rattled. I'm sure that is the toughest second half they'll ever have, but that's why they are champions, because they are never beaten or out of the game.

Heskey heads in moments before the break
"The second half performance was magnificent. At the beginning we looked a bit edgy and didn't look as if we had the belief, then and all of a sudden we got the bit between our teeth, and scored a good goal at the right time.

"People go on about our record against top teams, and it's no good me keeping on saying that we have got to learn from it, but we can't keep conceding goals at home and saying it's unlucky for Wigan. Unlucky teams end up getting relegated.

"I'm disappointed in the manner we conceded the goal, but you have to take your hat off, that's what champions do. But we have got to start getting some points now.

"When you get so close to getting something, it is frustrating, although I am not down. From the Arsenal game and today, we could have got two points, and that could be a big difference for us.

"I felt that it what we deserved from those games, but we have to start asking why we don't get those points. I think it is because we mentally switch off."

Jewell also had some special words for the inspirational Emile Heskey, he added: "I've been saying all along he has been very, very good for us. He has led the line brilliantly in the second half and he has got everything in his locker and it's nice to see him get a couple of goals. It will do him a world of good."

Jose Mourinho

"Everyone thinks we have the perfect squad, but we don't. We only have three central defenders and when John Terry is injured we only have two. We no longer have the best goalkeeper in the world, either.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho
"We have no Joe Cole, we have suspensions, red cards and bad decisions against us. If we get any more injuries we are in big trouble and we already have Khalid Boulahrouz suspended.

"Manchester United are top of the table with no injuries, no suspensions and no referees like the one we had at Tottenham. Everything is going fantastically for them.

"It is the opposite to last season, when everything was fantastic for us and they had all the problems - Paul Scholes' eye injury, Ryan Giggs being out for a while. This season we are having the problems."

Arjan Robben

"It's not good for the nerves - for the fans or ourselves. We got three points and that's all that matters. We have to be honest with ourselves, that was a terrible way to play and we didn't deserve to win.

"We were 2-0 up in the first half, we were comfortable and confident. But we let them get back in the game. We were sloppy and just not awake. We have to forget this quickly and go on to the next game. You just have to keep focusing and concentrating in these games, we made too many mistakes."
