Charlton Reaction: Mackay generally pleased

The Latics started the game well but fell behind to a clincila finish from the Addicks who then went on to take the game 3-0, a result that leaves the Latics firmly in the relegation zone.

Speaking to the club's official website, Mackay said: “We started as well as we’ve started for a long period; we had a terrific opening period but their first attempt on goal was a goal.

“It was disappointing on the back of the other things that happened in the first-half and second-half we battled back hard to try and get back in the game and we were always susceptible to the counter and that’s something we take on the chin as we were trying to get back in the game.

“Young Sheyi Ojo and Kim Bo-Kyung ran themselves into the ground trying to make a difference but I thought the two of them were the two catalysts for everything we tried to do well.

“Our two centre backs worked very hard, as did our captain James Perch at right back, to drive us on but anything that could go wrong tonight did go wrong.

“We have to keep looking at the loan market and try to do something else because we’ve been hit hard by injuries, which is disappointing.”

There were also the excuses surrounding injuries made on the site which don't need repeating here.

As yet there has been no news regarding Leon Clarke who was stretchered off with what looked a serious neck/shoulder injury whilst William Kvist aggrivated his hamstrong strecthing for a tackle.

Next up is the visit of Cardiff City, Mackay's old club on Tuesday evening. Following the weather and two games in two nights on the DW Stadium pitch, it would appear that the Latics are competing with Blackpool for the worst pitch in the division as well as the worst team.
