Burnley Reaction: Rosler 'very happy' with point

With opponents Burnley riding high in the table the goal-less draw represented a good result for the Latics who had been stuttering under former boss Owen Coyle.

Fortunes have been changed since the arrival of Rosler with a big upturn in the mentality of the players and supporters playing a large part in the forward momentum.

Speaking about the game with Burnley, Rosler told the Wigan Evening Post: "I was very happy. We had to make changs once again, and we've stll not managed to maintain a consistent spine of the team.

"Despite that we gave one of the best teams in the league a hard time. I felt in was 50/50 - we created chances but so did they - and unfortunately we couldn't take one.

"I was happy with the application, the tempo, the energy, the willingness to attack. We looked stronger in the second half, but there is a reason why they are a top team.

"They defend very well and we didn't have enough to unlock the door."

Of surprise to Rosler was the defensive mentality of the visitors who ended the game second best and seemingly happy to take away a point.

"I was surprised with the way Burnley dropped in the second half," added Rosler. "I saw improvement in my team, in terms of energy levels, and we looked stronger than them in the end.

"Overall we have played against some very tough teams in a very demanding programme. We have been unfortunate with injuries, and I am still learning about my players.

"I'm very happy to be here after four and a half games and stll be unbeaten. I'm happy with the development I'm seeing and the response they're giving me to what I'm asking of them."

The Latics now face a difficult trip to Derby County to face the division's in form team. The last time we faced Derby was Owen Coyle's last game as manager so it will be interesting to see how an injury-ridded Rosler line-up will fare.
