Bournemouth Reaction: Howe pleased with performance

Roberto Martinez had made nine changes to his first eleven and gave the opportunity to fringe and youth players to impress.

Instead it was the Cherries who performed the brightest and were unlucky not to go through after taking the lead through O'Kane's first half strike.

Manager Eddie Howe said: “We did show what good footballers we have. We had good shape and that enabled us to keep possession of the ball, showing quality and composure in all areas of the pitch.”

“I think we had the best chances in the game. Wigan hit the bar a couple of times from long range, but Shwan didn’t have too much to do and their keeper was the busier by far.

“On another day, we could have taken another of the chances we had, but we can’t complain about the result and the opportunity to take them on at home.”

The replay will be a tough trip for the Latics who will have to face the long journey south in mid-week.
