From the Stands

Heres what a few of the Latics lads, and a Sunderland fan made of the action at the Stadium of Light.

Steve AKA Bairdman

it was one of our more lack lustre perfomances of the season to date. I thought Dezeeuw was excellent atthe back, Scharner was solid and Filan kept us in the game. Apart fromthose 3 no one else really stood out for me on Saturday.

After Camara scored we appeared to mainly just sit back and invite Sunderland on tous which nearly and probably should have cost us the game.
Our midfield went missing for long periods and as a result the front 2 were starved of any decent service, all this added together gave Sunderland the
initiative to go forward at every oppertunity. And in my opinion they deserved at least a draw on the day.

I suppose I shouldn't complain after the performance against the scum (sorry I mean Man Utdwhere we played really well and came away with nothing but that's football.

Although we didn't play very well and probably did not deserve the three points, the main thing is that we got them. Week in week out Scharner impresses me more and i think that him and De Zeeuw will make a great partnership at the back. I think we are also a much better team with Mchulloch on the left, he gives us an extra dimension in the air. I didn't think any player played particularly well, but i would've given Arjan De Zeeuw man of the match.

If you were a neutral at the Stadium of Light, and had no idea of where each team was in the Premiership, you'd have thought Wigan were fighting relegation along with Sunderland going off that game! The only real pieces of quality amd class came from the right boot of Henri Camara, from Arjan De Zeeuw showing you how to defend and from John Filan showing just why he was rated one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premiership last year. Yes we didn't deserve the points, but we played well against United and got nil points, so this for me is our just rewards for the performance against United.

And, of course, what about the Sunderland fans?

Saturday's game was brilliant- after the 8th minute that is...

From then on, Sunderland pretty much dominated the game. I thought the referee was pathetic, at one point in the game he gave a free kick to Wigan for what looked like absolutely nothing then two seconds later he waved on a BLATANT hand ball by Grant Leadbitter. Edge of the seat stuff until the final whistle and if it wasn't for two excellent goalkeepers then the scoreline would have been far greater. As for the goal....Well done Henri Camara, easily the best Premiership goal of the day. Some Sunderland fans were even clapping it which was brilliant to see.
