The main story hitting the headlines is the news that West Brom striker Lee Hughes' has been jailed for six years after his £100,000 super-charged Mercedes sports car ploughed into an oncoming Renault near his home, killing passenger Douglas Graham almost instantly.

In reaction to the tragedy players' union chief Gordon Taylor insists his organisation will do all they can to ensure their members are more responsible on the road following the jailing of Lee Hughes for causing death by dangerous driving. The PFA are considering the idea of advanced driving tests for young professionals who may own powerful cars despite being inexperienced road users.

In transfer news it seems that there is a struggle between a number of clubs to capture West Brom's Sean Gregan. Cardiff and Leeds are amoungst the clubs interested in the former North End mans signature.

"As things stand at the moment I'm stuck. It's obvious I'm not required at West Brom but I think I will be at Albion for some time. I've a year left on my contract but I don't want to be sitting around at games watching the weeks go by," commented Gregan.

West Ham have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old former England Under 21 international, who played on loan under Hammers boss Alan Pardew during his time as manager at Reading, has moved to Upton Park on a one year deal.

Wolves have completed the signing of former Sunderland defender Joachim Bjorkland.

The 33-year-old centre back, who was released by the Black cats at the end of last season, has penned a one year contract at The Molineux.

"I'm delighted to be here," Bjorklund told the Wolves official website. "I've left one big club to join another. I first heard of Wolves' interest a week ago and I didn't need to think twice about wanting to come here. I've had a taste of Premiership football with Sunderland and now I would love to play a part in helping Wolves return there. But I've come up against most of the players here at one time or another and I've played against Paul Ince many times. It'll be nice to have the chance of playing alongside him rather than against him."

Stoke City club captain Clive Clarke has ended speculation linking him with a move away from the club by signing a 12 month extension to his current contract.

Tony Dinning - Ipswich Bound
Tony Dinning has left the JJB for a two month loan spell at Ipswich Town with a view to a free transfer.

When asked about the mve, Dinning, 29, said :"I'm delighted to be here, initially on loan and hopefully I can do enough in the two months to persuade the manager to make the move a permanent one.

"Once I knew of the Club's interest I spoke to Jason De Vos, who I was with at Wigan last season, about coming here and he said it's a great place to play football.

"But I have played at Portman Road many times and I know the standing the Club has in the game so I'm really pleased to be here and looking forward to playing for Ipswich Town."

Watford have signed West Bromwich Albion defender James Chambers. The 23-year-old full back has moved to Vicarage Road on an initial one month loan deal and goes straight into Ray Lewingtons squad for Monday nights game against QPR.

Leeds United have also made their first signing with a transfer fee since Nick Barmby. The Whites paid £200k for Scotland international Stephen Crainey who arrives at Elland Road on a three-year deal from Southampton.

Crainey commented: "The last few days have been a bit frantic, but we've got it sorted and I'm delighted to be here and I just want to get down to playing some games for Leeds,' said Crainey. "There were never any doubts about dropping down a level. Paul [Sturrock] made it clear I wouldn't be part of his plans and I would only play if there were injuries, but I wasn't interested.

"As soon as I heard of Leeds' interest I was desperate to come. I see this as a chance to get my career back on track after what happened at Southampton."

Millwall expect to complete the signing of Canadian international Adrian Serioux within the next 24-hours.

The 25-year-old is set to sign from Canadian outfit Toronto Lynx after impressing manager Dennis Wise during The Lions' pre-season tour of British Columbia.

Serioux, who can play in either defence or midfield, will miss tomorrow's clash against Wigan Athletic, however, as International clearance will not be received in time for the player to be involved.

Preston keeper Jonathan Gould is to sign for Conference side Hereford United.

Gould will sign an initial one month loan deal with The Bulls on Friday with the possibility of that deal becoming permanent should he impress during his time at Edgar Street.

Coventry City are being linked with a move for former Latic Geoff Horsfield as the Baggies don't feel he can cut it at the top.

In other news star-spotting Gills fans may soon be able to catch a glimpse of pop star Jamelia at Priestfield as reports have suggested that the R&B star is currently dating Gills striker Darren Byfield.
