Championship Round Up 21/11/04

Last updated : 21 November 2004 By Paul Farrington
A 0-0 draw at home to a hard working Leicester team, a fair result on reflection and Levein seems to be turning a corner for the Foxes. Lee McCulloch hit the post for Wigan.

One result from Friday saw Preston beat Cardiff City at Ninian Park. Youl Mawene got the goal.

A possible Latics transfer target, Robbie Blake gave Burnley all three points away to Brighton.

Brian Deane - Four goals for Leeds yesterday
Big winners of the day were Leeds United who smashed Q.P.R. 6-1 after going a goal down to Gareth Ainsworth's super strike after just two minutes. Much maligned in Wigan, 36 year old Brian Deane scored four for the first time in his career with David Healy and Jermaine Wright grabing the other two.

Crewe also managed a good win. They beat Gillingham 4-1 at Gresty Road. Dean Ashton got a brace sandwiched by goals from David Vaughan and Steve Jones.

A big shock at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest took the points against Reading with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Welsh striker Gareth Taylor. This stopped Reading joining the Latics on 40 points at the top of the table. Instead there is a 3 point gap ahead of our trip to the Madejski.

In the midlands derby, Coventry City came away from Molineux with three points. Gary McSheffrey scored the goal after 61 minutes, leaving managerless Wolves in 18th place.

A good run from Derby County was brought to an end by Sheffield United who went home 1-0 winners after Alan Quinn's second half strike.

Plymouth drew 0-0 with Stoke, and Watford could only manage a 0-0 draw with Rotherham.
